Register for OU Idol

So you think you can sing?? Prove it! Ohio University will be holding an audition for the OU Idol competition on Monday, October 27th from 7:30 to 9:30 P.M. This is an opportunity for solo vocalists to showcase their performance abilities. No experience is necessary.

Pre-registration is required, and applications will be due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20th. Completed applications must be returned to OUidol@yahoo.com, or you can turn them in on the 1st Floor of Lasher Hall. [From Union Street, use the front entrance; past the main desk you will see an NCASC bulletin board. Place your registration materials in the folder attached to the board.]

You will submit your $10 registration fee when you arrive at 6:20 P.M. the night of the auditions (Monday, October 27th). If you do not turn in your $10, you will not be able to audition. There are no refunds for any reason. (Checks can be made payable to: March of Dimes; a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality).

Please direct all questions to the ouidol@yahoo.com. OU Idol auditions will be held in the Baker Ballroom on Monday, October 27th from 7:30-9:30 pm. Contestants must arrive by 6:20 P.M. to check-in and participate in the contestant orientation. You will be asked to sing 60-90 seconds of a song A Cappella (without music). At the end of the show, the top twenty contestants will be announced and be asked to come back on Tuesday, October 28th to compete for the title of OU Idol.

For the Finals round, contestants must provide their own backing music on CD or cassette tape You may not use your own instruments. (CD is preferred. All cassette tapes must be cued in advance to the selected song. No lead vocals.) Song selections must be approved by the producers and edited less than 4 minutes.
The Finals round will be Tuesday, October 28th in the Baker Ballroom from 7:30 to 9:30 P.M. There will be 3 professional judges. A Public Vote will count as the vote of a “fourth judge.” The finals will be judged by a qualified panel of judges, and scoring will be based on the following criteria: Vocal Quality, Showmanship, and Overall Performance. Contestants are required to arrive at 6:20 pm on the night of competition. At 6:30 pm, a contestant orientation will take place. No family, friends, coaches or visitors are permitted in contestant orientation.

Judges will use a 1 to 10 scoring system (whole numbers only) to rate contestants in (1) Vocal Quality* and (2) Showmanship**. Those two scores will be averaged to arrive at the (3) Overall Performance score. The scores for Vocal Quality, Showmanship, and Overall Performance will be added together to arrive at the Total Score.
